Apple forced to say Samsung did not copy the iPad

Judge rules Galaxy not "as cool" as iPad

A British judge has ordered that Apple must run ads saying Samsung did not copy the design of the wildly popular iPad.

This follows a bitter and long dispute between the two companies over the design of Samsung's Galaxy Tab product.

Judge Birss ruled that Samsung did not infringe the design of the iPad and told Apple they must now advertise this fact in the press and on their website.

The judge did say there could be no confusion between the two devices as the Samsung Galaxy was not "as cool" as the iPad. Ouch.

No word yet if Apple will state this in the forced advertising but it seems highly likely they will mention the lack-of-cool comment by the judge.

Samsung said in a statement after the hearing: "Should Apple continue to make excessive legal claims based on such generic designs, innovation in the industry could be harmed and consumer choice unduly limited."

Apple declined to comment on Judge Birss's instruction. Didn't seem the "cool" thing to do.
