Megaupload alternatives traffic boost
Posted by Tim on: Friday 27 January 2012

Downloading frenzy

When the FBI shut down file-sharing service Megaupload, it was only a matter of time before other online "file locker" websites took over the Interwebs. Traffic to RapidShare, Hotfile and 4Shared website has exploded.

One of the sites, 4Shared which has 2.5 billion page views a month is now twice as the size of MegaUpload before the raid.

'This case has a great negative impact on file storage services and the Internet overall,' a 4Shared spokesman said.

'4shared has some of the most strict house rules among all other file storage services and there’s no need for any changes.'

Kim Dotcom, the owner of Megaupload is accused of costing copyright owners $500 million in lost earnings and of making over $200 million by selling advertising and premium subscriptions.
