Too Popular Project

The hugely successful Million Dollar Homepage website by Alex Tew, a 21-year-old entrepreneur, was knocked off the Internet today (Thursday) following huge amounts of publicity as the project finishes.

From an idea so simple - users pay per pixel space - Alex has earned himself over $1,000,000 and thousands of naff clones too - all because he needed a new pair of socks.

Most online marketing experts dismiss his unique idea and think it's nothing special and a "fluke" merely showing the power of marketing and publicity.

Well, duh. That's the point, surely?

The final pixels were sold for $38,000 yesterday on eBay which pushed him over the million dollar goal.

With the site getting over 500,000 unique visitors a day it was only a matter of time before the closing publicity knocked the entire project off the web for a little while. It should be back soon.
