Don't Open Attachment
Admit it. You were a bit shocked to receive an e-mail from the FBI telling you they caught you visiting dodgy websites. Don't panic - it's fake and the attachment is a virus.
Usually such e-mails are easily ignored, but some people will see the return e-mail address is fbi.gov and perhaps be tempted to open it. Once opened, the virus (Sober.K) infects your system and sends the e-mail around the Internet.
The FBI issued a statement saying, "The FBI today warned the public to avoid falling victim to an on-going mass e-mail scheme wherein computer users receive unsolicited e-mails purportedly sent by the FBI. These e-mails did not come from the FBI. Recipients of this or similar solicitations should know that the FBI does not engage in the practice of sending unsolicited e-mails to the public in this manner."
The e-mail says:
Dear Sir/Madam,
we have logged your IP-address on more than 40 illegal Websites.
Important: Please answer our questions!
The list of questions are attached.
Yours faithfully,
M. John Stellford
