Chat Room Case
America Online and its parent company, Time Warner, are being sued by a 19-year old woman who claims she was seduced by an AOL chatroom monitor when she was just 15-years old.
The alleged incident took place in a monitored chat room when the accuser became friendly with the online monitor and told him personal details of her life. She claims he instigated a more explicit conversation over time by online chat and phone.
The lawsuit blames AOL and Time Warner for failing to supervise the employee and for falsely advertising that AOLs chat rooms are safe for children.
AOL say they fired the man once they became aware of the situation in April 2003 and say all of the chatroom monitors undergo criminal background checks and "rigorous screening and training procedures."
